Description
If this will be your first Velomens cycling tour, I recommend reading a short overview about how the trips work, how we carry our belongings and what everyday life on the bike looks like.
This is a point-to-point trip where we will move from one accommodation to the next,
so we will carry all necessary belongings ourselves.
A small 7–14 litre bike bag will be enough.
You only need to bring the essentials – we will stay in hotels and apartments,
and along the way there will regularly be towns and villages where we can eat and restock.
Early June is a great time for a cycling tour in Slovenia.
Nature is already lush and green, the days are long and temperatures in the lower valleys are usually pleasantly warm.
During the day we can expect approximately +20 to +27 °C,
while it will be cooler higher in the mountains.
The intense summer heat will not yet have started, making conditions for long mountain rides
much more pleasant than in midsummer.
Weather in the mountains can change quickly, so clothing for cooler and rainy conditions will also be necessary.
We will ride on incredibly scenic paved roads,
prioritising smaller roads with as little traffic as possible.
The routes will include everything that makes Slovenia worth exploring by bike –
mountain passes and switchbacks, roads along lakes and rivers,
green valleys and long descents.
Most of the route will be on asphalt, but there will also be some short gravel and cycle-path sections,
so a gravel bike will be the most suitable choice for this trip.
We will spend every night in comfortable accommodation with all essential amenities.
Most stays will be in hotels and apartments of approximately 3–4★ standard,
selected based on both guest reviews and location.
We will stay 2–3 people per room.
Bed linen and towels will be provided, and there will be a secure place to store the bikes.
Breakfast and dinner will usually be in restaurants or cafés close to our accommodation.
During the day – stops for coffee, cake, ice cream and refuelling.
We will travel in a small group of 8 cyclists.
The trip will be led by Krišjānis Ratiniks,
who has previously ridden part of the planned route in Slovenia.
